Third Tuesday: Submerged NC: Exploring North Carolina’s Underwater Cultural Heritage
October 19, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeA vast network of more than 37,000 miles of rivers, inlets, and access to the Atlantic Ocean has served the people of North Carolina for thousands of years, providing food, transportation, power, and entertainment. Human interaction with these environments leaves evidence of past North Carolinians visible in our unique underwater heritage. Join Chris Southerly, Deputy State Archaeologist, NC Office of State Archaeology, and John J. Mintz, State Archaeologist, NC Office of State Archaeology for a presentation that chronicles how the North Carolina Office of State Archaeology identifies, protects, and shares the stories of these non-renewable resources with those in North Carolina and beyond.
All Third Tuesday evening programs are free and open to the public; however, donations are happily accepted. Lectures are held at the Southport Community Building at 223 E. Bay St. at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. For more information or to register, please contact the museum at (910) 477-5151. Lectures are geared for ages 16 years and older. Seating is limited, so registration is required. Masks are required.
