Captions can be turned on or off in the lower right corner.**REMEMBER** The State of North Carolina has title to the bottom of all navigable waters within the state, and it is the statutory responsibility of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources to conduct and/or supervise the surveillance, protection, preservation, survey, and systematic underwater archaeological recovery of underwater cultural materials. Permits are issued through NCGS Chapter 121, Article 3 Salvage of Abandoned Shipwrecks and Other Underwater Archaeological Sites and Chapter 70, Article 2 Archaeological Resources Protection Act. A permit is required for any archaeological investigation, meaning any surface collection, subsurface tests, excavation, or other activity that results in the disturbance or removal of archaeological resources which includes any material remains of past human life which may be of archaeological interest. ...
