William Benjamin Gould was a skilled plasterer, and a slave of the Nixon family in Wilmington. He escaped by rowing 28 miles down the Cape Fear River to the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron. Gould joined the U.S. Navy, going on to complete three enlistments. Join Dr. Fonvielle in discussing Gould's life and legacy.
