All Friends of the N.C. Maritime Museum at Southport members are invited to join us Sept. 20 for two exclusive programs: a Membership Potluck from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by the members-only lecture “The Land Was Ours: African American Beaches in a Changing South”
Join Dr. Andrew Kahrl in learning the story of African American–owned beaches in the twentieth century South, and how in the wake of the civil rights movement and amid the growing prosperity of the Sunbelt, many African Americans fell victim to effective campaigns to dispossess black landowners of their properties and beaches. Reservations are required for each program.
