On November 22, 1849, two enslaved men—George Walker and Thomas Wooster—stowed themselves away on the schooner Minerva Wright in an attempt to escape slavery. Cape Fear Museum historian Dr. Jan Davidson will explore this compelling tale of escape and recapture within the context of the history of enslavement in coastal Cape Fear on March 21 as part of our Third Tuesday program.

Join us at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Southport Community Building to learn more about the region’s history.

All Third Tuesday programs are free and open to the public; donations are appreciated. Lectures are held at the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay St., at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Lectures are geared for 16 years and older. For more information or to register, call (910) 477-5151. Seating is limited, so registration is required.
