Happy Sunday Sailors!
Remember that today is the FINAL day that the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History will have Water/Ways on display. This traveling exhibit through the Smithsonian Museums on Main Street has spent the last six weeks in the area discussing connects to water! Also on display has been a shorebird painting exhibit.

North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport plans to premiere a video.

North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport

Join Garrity-Blake in exploring Beaufort and Southport's hubs of menhaden fishmeal and oil industries with a special look at race relations and the African American crews that raised their heavy nets of fish with chanteys.

Dr. Barbara Garrity-Blake has a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Virginia. She teaches marine fisheries policy at the Duke University Marine Lab in Beaufort. She is author of "The Road at the Water's Edge" University of North Carolina Press, "Fish House Opera" Mystic Seaport Press, and "The Fish Factory" The University of Tennessee Press. She lives in the Down East Carteret County community of Gloucester with her husband, a boat builder and musician.

It is almost time for our January Third Tuesday lecture! This month we hear from Dr. Barbara Garrity-Blake and her work researching the Menhaden industries of North Carolina. In this recorded lecture learn about both Southport and Beaufort's hubs of industry. It will be available right here on Facebook at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19th or you can wait until 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 20th you can watch on YouTube.
